Android tablets are grabbing a greater share from the iPad in the tablet market, but no single competitor has yet to emerge to give Apple's tablet a run for its money.

Sony CEO Howard Stringer said the company will reportedly ship a tablet by the end of this summer, a move that would bring a massive competitor to the already frothing market.

Tablet computers will reach sales of 50 million in 2011, according to market research firm IDC, with Apple continuing to dominate the market it pioneered, but competitors gaining headway.

Apple's iPad, which represented a 90 percent share of the tablets sold in the third-quarter last year, according to research firm IDC, will continue driving the booming sector, even as new competitors release similar challengers.
