The Round Rock, Texas-based company said the Streak, which has a 5.0-inch touch screen display, will be the first of a number of planned products, including a 7.0-inch and a 10-inch tablet.
The Streak will run Android 2.2 and Flash 10.1 software, and unlike many other Google tablets, be able to download apps through the Internet search giant's online marketplace.
In addition, it will feature a Snapdragon 1-gigahertz processor, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, 2-gigabytes of internal storage with a microSD slot for up to 32-gigabytes of extra memory, GPS with turn-by-turn navigation and two cameras -- a front-facing VGA one for video-chatting and a 5.0-megapixel one on the back for still photos.
"The Streak hits the sweet spot between traditional smartphones and larger-screen tablets," said Ron Garriques, president of Dell's consumer division. "Its unique size provides people new ways to enjoy, connect, and navigate their lives."
Amid slowing demand for traditional computers, Dell, the world's third-largest PC maker, is betting on tablets and smartphones to boost growth.
In January, Apple single-handedly spearheaded the tablet market when it debuted the iPad, selling over a million units in under a month.
Since then PC makers have been scrambling to develop their own tablet devices. Rival Hewlett-Packard, which acquired Palm last month, is working on a portfolio of tablets running the handset maker's WebOS mobile operating system.
Dell has not revealed pricing for the Streak, but said that it will be offered first in the U.K. next month, followed by Europe and the U.S. later this summer.
