Apple said its iPad tablet computer will launch in nine more international markets, including Australia, Canada and the U.K., on May 28 -- with pre-orders starting tomorrow -- following a strong debut in the U.S. last month.
The Cupertino, Calif.-based company said the iPad will also go on sale in France, Italy, Japan, Spain and Switzerland on the same day.
The 9.7-inch touch screen product, intended for gaming, Web browsing, and viewing digital media such as electronic books and movies, went on sale in the U.S. on April 3.
The iPad 3G, a version with high-speed connectivity, hit store shelves earlier this week.
Apple had expected to sell the tablet overseas shortly after the initial launch, but delayed the international release until now after experiencing what it called unexpectedly strong demand -- selling more than a million within a month.
Analysts predict sales of around 5 million iPads this year alone.
Apple said the second round of countries to sell the iPad in July includes Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand and Singapore.
